contributing to community
Churches too often are involved in themselves and no-one else.
During my time in IIM ministry, I began research of my community. In the process, links were spreading with a wide variety of community leaders. I became aware of community needs.
The most vivid experience was at Nowra, in New South Wales. Because I used three methods of research, as you will see later, each method strengthened the others.
The three most influential leaders in the large Shoalhaven region commended the final report and stated that it was by far the most thorough report ever made of the region. They asked us to work with them in their projects, and they would work with us in our projects. The mayor was so moved by the report that he went on the National ABC News.
The other major report of North-East Brisbane raised surprising discoveries that impacted how our denominational churches should recast their pastoral approach.
